Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons in conjunction with Central Alabama Caribbean American Organization (CACAO) will bring the sights and sounds of the Caribbean to Regions Field on June 13th when they present a minicarnival in recognition of Caribbean American Heritage Month and the growing Caribbean community in the City of Birmingham.

In 2006, President George W. Bush designated June as Caribbean American Heritage Month in recognition of the contributions Caribbean people have made to theUnited States. The commemoration of this month helps ensure that Americans in cities all across the nation, from New York to Los Angeles to Miami, are reminded that our country's greatness lies in its diversity. According to CACAO President, Pauline Ford-Caesar: "The Caribbean community in Birmingham is very dynamic and we are pleased that the City of Birmingham is joining us in recognizing the month, due in large part to the support of Mayor William Bell and the Birmingham City Council."

Those attending the game are encouraged to arrive early so they won't miss the Caribbean celebration. Catch a front-and-center view of the colorful costumes and carnival-style music as a parade dances through the stadium. The evening promises to be unforgettable, with vibrant colors, music and energy as the Barons take to the field for the Michael Jordan Throwback series which will be followed by a fireworks display at the end of the game.

Through every chapter of our nation's history, Caribbean Americans have made our country stronger -- reshaping our politics and reigniting the arts, spurring our movements and answering the call to serve, according to a recent presidential proclamation recognizing NationalCaribbean American Heritage Month. Caribbean traditions have enriched America's heritage, and woven new threads into its cultural fabric.
