
Barons Drop Series Finale to Smokies 4-1

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped their series finale against the Tennessee Smokies by a score of 4-1 in front of 3,734 fans at Smokies Park.
The Smokies took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning highlighted by a two-run home run by Dustin Geiger against starter Mike Recchia (2-1, 1.96). Recchia allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits while striking out four over 5.0 IP in his first loss since joining the Barons.
Rangel Ravelo supplied the lone run for the Barons with an RBI double in the seventh inning. The double was his team-leading 14th of the season. However, starter Joe Gardner (1-0, 0.98) and two Smokies relievers held the Barons to just three hits on the afternoon.
With the loss, the Barons fell to 26-34 while The Smokies improved to 27-31. TheBarons return home Thursday to begin a five-game series against the JacksonGenerals. The Barons will send RHP Nick McCully (2-5, 6.18) to the hill in game one against LHP Cam Hobson (4-4, 3.61). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
