Lookouts Fall Behind Early and Lose Final Game of Series to Mobile

June 4, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

The Chattanooga Lookouts (24-36) fell behind six runs early in the game to the Mobile BayBears (35-24) and ended up dropping the final game of their five-game series, 9-4.

Mobile BayBears' outfielder Tom Belza sparked the team's offense in the first inning with a lead-off double. Mobile compiled three more hits in the inning off of Lookouts' starter Raydel Sanchez (0-4, 9.13) to take the three-run lead. Mobile's offense continued to pile on the runs in the third inning on home runs by Jake Lamb and Dustin Martin.

In a six-run hole, Chattanooga started to scrape away at the daunting deficit. Darnell Sweeney led off the bottom of the third with a lead-off walk and was then driven home on a double Ryan Adams. The double was Adams first of three two-baggers on the afternoon. He is now batting .307 with 10 doubles on the season.

Chattanooga was able to cut the lead down to four in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single by Daniel Mayora. The Lookouts' pitching staff was able to keep the BayBears off the board until the 8th inning. Former starting piitcher Garrett Gould releived Sanchez in the fourth and delivered four solid innings of shutout baseball in relief.

After Gould left the game, Mobile added one more run in the top of the eighth and two more in the ninth to put the game out of reach for the Lookouts. Chattanooga did manage to score two more runs in the eighth on a home run by Noel Cuevas, but couldn't finish their comeback.

Today's game marked the team's last home series of the first half. The team will return to Chattanooga on June 24 when they face Pensacola for the first time at home. Tomorrow the team goes on the road to Mississippi to face Jason Hursh and the Braves. Matching up against Hursh will be righty Nick Struck.

Notes: Today the Lookouts and BayBears combined to hit 10 doubles which is three shy of the Southern League record...Ryan Adams hit three of the Lookouts' doubles which ties the team's record for most doubles in a game...It was also one shy of tying the Southern League's single game record.
