Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

About Last Night...The Hot Rods suffered their first loss of the season, drop- ping a 7-5 decision at Dayton. Bowling Green picked up a pair of runs in the first thanks to a Grant Witherspoon single, but Joe Ryan coughed up a three- run homer to Dayton catcher Jay Schuyler in the bottom half of the frame. Ryan would only go 3.0 innings, but he would punch out seven hitters and hand off a 4-3 lead to Chris Gau in the fourth, thanks to Roberto Alvarez's first home run of the season. Gau would give up the lead and Dayton would tack on insurance runs in the seventh and eighth to help fend off the Hot Rods. Bowling Green pitching would strike out 16 batters, but allowed ten hits in the losing effort.

Last Night's Notes...Ford Proctor reached base four time thanks to two hits and two walks out of the leadoff hole, marking the fourth time in his career that he's reached base four times...Grant Witherspoon stole two bases, the second time in his career that he's swiped a pair of bags in a contest... Joe Ryan struck out seven batters, tied for the second-highest mark in his career...Roberto Alvarez smacked the first Bowling Green home run of the season, a solo shot in the top of the forth...It's his third career home run...Ka- leo Johnson extended his hitting streak to six games with a 1-for-4 effort... Bowling Green fell to 94-68 all-time vs. Dayton, 47-38 on the road.

Coming Home...Tonight marks the 11th home opener in team history. Previously, the Hot Rods have gone 7-3 in their Bowling Green Ballpark openers, including a 2-1 mark vs. Dayton. The Hot Rods played their first home contest of the year against the Dragons in 2010 (a loss), as well as 2016 and 2018 (both wins).

300 Club... Hot Rods manager Reinaldo Ruiz picked up his 300th career win on Opening Day. 228 of those victories have come while donning a Hot Rods uniform, making him the winningest manager in franchise history, ten wins ahead of Brady Williams who won 218 games between 2010-2012. Ruiz anaged the Hot Rods from 2015-2017, making the playoffs in his most re- cent stint with the team. He returns for the 2019 season after spending the summer with the Charlotte Stone Crabs (Port Charlotte, FL), the Rays' Advanced-A affiliate in the Florida State League.

The Roster.. The 2019 Hot Rods are a very different club than the 2018 championship team. Wander Franco, the Rays' top prospect in both MLB Pipe- line and Baseball America, earned his first full-season assignment while the only other ranked prospect is opening-day starter Shane McClanahan. Chris Betts and Nick Padilla both embark on their second tour with the team, but it's a club with an average age of just over 21 1/2. The youngest member of the team is Franco (18) while the oldest is Cristofer Ogando (25), who was a Rule Five selection from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
