Bowden nearly perfect, 'Dogs roll by Seawolves 8-1

(Portland, ME) - Michael Bowden (5-3) retired the first 18 batters and Portland pounded out 14 hits to grab the series opener from the Erie SeaWolves, 8-1 on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. Bowden left the game in the seventh inning after Ryan Roberson's infield single. The 21-year old righty worked 6.2 innings on three hits, one run, no walks and six strikeouts.

LF Jeff Corsaletti knocked in three runs and finished with two hits, 1B Aaron Bates extended his hitting streak to 16-games and drove in a pair of runs with two outs. SS Iggy Suarez blasted his third home run, a 2-run shot over the Maine Monster in the second inning. The Sea Dogs received a hit from all nine starters and had a baserunner in every inning.

Jon Connolly (0-5) suffered the loss for Erie, surrendering nine hits and six runs (five earned) in just four innings pitched. SeaWolves' relievers Brendan Wise and Marcelo Perez each allowed a run in 2-inning stints.

Mike James closed out the game with 2.1 scoreless frames, allowing just one baserunner on a hit batter.

Bowden lowered his ERA to 2.12 (2nd in the Eastern League) and allowed only one ball to be hit out of the infield during his first six innings. 3B Max Leon ended the perfect game in the seventh inning with double, 2B Will Rhymes followed with a single and DH Jeff Frazier hit into a double play, scoring Leon.

Bates knocked in the game's first run with a 2-out RBI single in the first inning. The Portland first baseman extended his hitting streak to 16-games and delivered a run-scoring double with 2-outs in the fourth.

In the second inning, Suarez blasted a two-run homer that hit the top of the Maine Monster and landed in the net. The home run was the third for Suarez - all three have come at Hadlock Field. Corsaletti and Granadillo knocked in runs during a 3-run fourth inning - Granadillo extended his hitting streak to 9 straight games.
