Aerodynamics...

Too Much, Too Late...Sunday's game at Canal Park was quite a pitching duel early on as the Aeros and Baysox were locked in a 1-1 tie heading into the eighth inning, but the Baysox rallied for six runs in the top of the eighth en route to a 7-1 victory to avoid a sweep. With one out Bowie's Jeff Nettles hit a high fly into the wind in left, and the ball glanced off LF Nathan Panther's glove, allowing Nettles to reach second on the error. After reliever Erik Stiller allowed an RBI double to Nolan Reimold to give Bowie the lead, LHP Shawn Nottingham came on and allowed three hits, a walk, and a hit batter as the Baysox broke the game open for the final margin. Akron's only run came in the bottom of the sixth as RF Bronson Sardinha reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Panther's wind-aided triple to straightaway center field.

It's an Honor Just to be Nominated...Aeros closer Randy Newsom was named Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 1st. Newsom recorded two wins, three saves, and posted a 1.80 ERA in five appearances last week. While the side-arming right-hander also blew two saves during the week, his offense was able to rally in the bottom of the ninth of both games to earn Newsom the wins. The Aeros all-time saves leader (34) is 16 for 18 in save chances this year, and on Saturday allowed an earned run for the first time since his first appearance of the year April 6th.

Panning Out...Akron OF Nathan Panther made his first start in nearly a week on Sunday after a brief roster shuffle placed him at Class-A Mahoning Valley. The native Iowan was unfazed however, and he picked up where he last left off with the Aeros. He was Akron's only player on Sunday to record multiple hits (both of which were for extra bases) and Panther is now riding a four-game hitting streak. Panther has three multi-hit games in that span, during which he is hitting .533 (8-15) with three doubles, a triple, and four RBI. And speaking of hitting streaks, SS Josh Rodriguez is enjoying a seven-game streak of his own, while also hitting safely in 17 of his last 19 games. During the seven-game streak the former Rice University star is hitting .250 (7-28) with three doubles and two RBI.

Transaction City...The Aeros bullpen continues to be a fluid medium, as relievers Jeff Stevens and J.D. Martin have both been promoted to Class AAA Buffalo while RHP T.J. Burton and LHP Reid Santos have replaced them in the relief corps. Stevens had been lights-out in his last six outings, allowing no runs and just one hit over that span, while Martin had gone 4-3 with a 4.64 ERA in 15 appearances in his first year as a reliever. Burton began the year with Akron and appeared in 15 games, going 0-2 with a 4.67 ERA, while Santos went 2-2 with a 7.20 ERA in 16 relief outings for the Bisons.

Did You Know...The Aeros finished May with an 18-10 record but hit just eight homers in the month, the lowest in the EL.
