MANCHESTER, NH - Akron took a brief lead with four runs in the top of the eighth only to see New Hampshire respond with three in the bottom of the frame to claim a 7-5 win before 5,295 fans Tuesday night. The Fisher Cats improved to 22-35 on the year while Akron slipped to 29-26.

Two-run rallies in the first and fourth innings gave the Cats an early 4-1 lead, but the Aeros offense finally awoke in the eighth after going five innings without a hit. Trevor Crowe reached on a broken-bat, infield single with one away to start the rally, and Josh Rodriguez then laced an RBI double to left-center to bring Akron to within 4-2. A walk and a fly out put runners at the corners with two gone for Bronson Sardinha, and he promptly hammered a mistake fastball from Jamie Vermilyea off the video-board in right-center field for a 5-4 Akron advantage.

The Aeros couldn't hold on however, as the Cats got the winning rally started immediately. Eric Nielsen led off the bottom of the eighth with a single, and Anthony Hatch followed by slicing a double down the left field line to put runners at second and third. Ryan Klosterman then tied the game with an RBI grounder, and two batters later Aaron Matthews delivered his second two-run double of the night to provide the final margin. Akron did make things interesting in the top of the ninth, but Sardinha grounded out as the potential go-ahead run to end the game.

Seth Overbey (2-0) got the win in relief for New Hampshire, while Scott Roehl (1-2) allowed all three runs in the bottom of the eighth to suffer the loss. Zach Dials danced out of trouble in the ninth for his seventh save in nine opportunities. Rodriguez, Matt Whitney, and Stephen Head all had two hits for the Aeros, and Sardinha's home run was his first in an Aeros uniform and gave him eight RBI in seven games with Akron.

Game two in this three-game series is set for 7:05 p.m. Wednesday night, and will feature lefty Ryan Edell (2-4, 4.72 ERA) for Akron against Cats right-hander Brandon Magee (0-7, 5.90 ERA). The game broadcast begins at 6:50 p.m. on SportsRadio 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at (330) 253-5151.
