Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Aeros announced a series of roster moves today, with RHPs Jeff Stevens and J.D. Martin both receiving promotions to Class AAA Buffalo and RHP T.J. Burton (from Class A Mahoning Valley) and LHP Reid Santos (from Buffalo) coming to Akron.

Stevens had been throwing the ball as well as any reliever in the Eastern League as of late, compiling six straight scoreless outings (covering 10.0 innings) and allowing just one hit over that span. The native of Moraga, CA was 5-1 on the year for the Aeros, with one save and a 2.51 ERA in 17 appearances overall. Martin, meanwhile, had pitched solidly since returning from elbow surgery that derailed his 2007 campaign and limited him to just nine starts last year. Used primarily as a reliever for the first time in his career this season, the former first-round pick was 4-3 with a 4.64 ERA in 15 games (including three spot-starts). He had 26 strikeouts against just eight walks in 33.0 innings this year, and in his last six appearances recorded 15 strikeouts and just one walk.

Burton began the year with Akron, going 0-2 with a 4.67 ERA in 15 relief appearances. He was transferred to Class A Mahoning Valley May 18th in order to work on a new arm angle for his pitches. Santos opened this season with Buffalo following a fantastic 2007 season with the Aeros. The native of Hawaii went 8-3 with a 2.72 ERA for Akron last year but was unable to carry his momentum over to this year, going 2-2 with a 7.20 ERA in 16 games out of the Bisons bullpen. Santos did have 24 strikeouts in just 25.0 innings for Buffalo, but opponents were hitting .378 against him.
