Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves were shut down by a masterful pitching performance out of Michael Bowden on Tuesday night as they fell 8-1 in the series opener against the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field.

Portland jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning. Jeff Crosaletti led off with a single, advanced to second on a walk and got to third on a double play ball. With two down, Aaron Bates singled home Corsaletti for a 1-0 Sea Dogs lead.

In the bottom of the second, the Sea Dogs added a pair of runs. Ryan Khoury led off and reached on an error. Two batters later, Iggy Suarez, connected on a ball over the "Maine Monster" in left for a 3-0 Portland lead. The home run for Suarez was his third on the season.

The Sea Dogs would continue to swing hot bats in the fourth inning. Mickey Hall walked to lead off the inning and Suarez singled to put runners on the corners for Corsaletti. Corsaletti singled home Hall for a 4-0 lead. Tony Granadillo hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Suarez to make it 5-0 Sea Dogs. With two outs, Aaron Bates doubled home Corsaletti for a 6-0 Portland advantage.

Portland would add a seventh run to go ahead 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth when Khoury scored on a double play ball.

Erie would finally crack through with their first hit of the game in the top of the seventh. Max Leon led off with a double down the left field line to break up Michael Bowden's perfect game. Leon moved to third on a base hit by Rhymes and he scored on a double play to make it 7-1.

Portland would score one more in the seventh to go back ahead by seven at 8-1. That proved to be enough as Mike James tossed the final 2.1 innings without giving up a hit.

Bowden (5-3) picked up the win giving up a run on three hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Bowden carried a perfect game into the seventh before giving up his first hit to Leon.

Connolly (0-5) took the loss for Erie going four innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on nine hits with three walks and a strikeout.
