Bombers and Pit Spitters Suspended Mid Game
June 9, 2021 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release
BATTLE CREEK, MI., - After knocking off the Pit Spitters on Tuesday, Battle Creek was looking for a sweep of the three-game home stand. The Bombers defeated the Rockford Rivets on Sunday 6-1, then had Monday night's game rained out before it started, then beat Traverse City Tuesday night 10-5.
The finale of the home stand was only in the bottom of the third inning and the Pit Spitters were up 5-0 when the rain came through. A brief but torrential downpour flooded the playing field and halted the game. After the rain had stopped, the field was not in good enough condition to continue.
Traverse City attacked early as they put up two runs in the top of the first and three in the second. Collin Summerhill would get to the Bombers starter, Adam Davis, with a two RBI single to bring in Christian Faust and Miles Simington. The lead would be extended an inning later when Faust hit an RBI single, Johanes Haakenson, would score on a wild pitch, and then Summerhill would record his third RBI of the night on a ground out to second base.
The rain started during the third inning and after Nicholas Israel walked to start the bottom half of the third, the game was put into a delay.
The suspended game has been scheduled to resume in the bottom of the third on June 26 when the Pit Spitters are back in Battle Creek. The game will restart at 5:05pm that evening.
