BlueClaws Slip Past Shorebirds 3-2 on Memorial Day

Salisbury, Md. - Jim Murphy hit a two-out single into left-center field in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Lakewood BlueClaws (27-23) to a 3-2 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (27-24) on Monday afternoon. The BlueClaws have won four straight over the Shorebirds and have secured the series win.

The BlueClaws scored the first runs of the game in the fifth inning. Anthony Hewitt singled to center to begin the fifth. Miguel Alvarez followed with a single. Then, a passed ball against Michael Ohlman advanced both runners 90-feet. Cameron Rupp followed with a chopper towards short to give Lakewood a 1-0 lead. Then, with two outs, Carlos Perdomo hit a pop up to shallow left field that went in and out of the glove of the sliding Jonathan Schoop, allowing Aaron Altherr to score.

In the eighth inning, Mychal Givens reached base on an error by Edgar Duran. Then, Brenden Webb blasted his second home run of the season to tie the game at 2-2.

In the eighth, Murphy hit a two-out flare single into shallow left-center field to score Perdomo to give Lakewood a 3-2 lead.

Garrett Claypool earned the win over seven shutout innings. He allowed only four hits. Cameron Roth was pinned with the loss in three full innings. The only hit he allowed was the Murphy flare single.

Juan Sosa earned his fifth save of the season by tossing a flawless ninth inning.
