Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws won their 5th straight ballgame, and 11th out of their last 12th with a 3-2 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds on a perfect day weather wise on Memorial Day. It was another day, and another great start from a Lakewood Pitcher as Garett Claypool didn't allow a run over 7 innings. Lakewood blew a 2-0 lead in the 8th innings, but they took the lead back in the bottom of the 8th for good. You couldn't ask for much more on Monday if you are a BlueClaws fan.
With 7 innings of shutout ball from their SP Garett Claypool on Monday, it has now been 28 innings since a BlueClaws SP had allowed an earned run. Four straight starts the BlueClaws starter has not allowed a single earned run, and now all 6 games this homestand the BlueClaws SP has gone 7 innings. Claypool scattered 4 hits and 1 walk over his 7 innings, and struck out 7 batters as well to push his BlueClaws team lead in that category to 77. Jake Borup came in and allowed a 2-run HR to Brendan Webb after an error by the SS Edgar Duran that tied the ballgame at 2. He recovered and got out of the inning with the game tied, and picked up his first win as a BlueClaw. Juan Sosa pitched the 9th and collected his 5th save.
Lakewood scored 2 runs in the 5th inning. 1 on Cameron Rupp's FC with runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out, and the other on Carlos Perdomo's single that scored Aaron Altherr all the way from 1st base. Then, the play of the ballgame came with the game tied in the bottom of the 8th. Perdomo led off the 8th with a walk, was sacrificed to 2B by Edgar Duran, and moved to 3rd when Geancarlo Mendez grounded out to 2B. That brought up big Jim Murphy, and he came through with the biggest hit of the game, a 2 out RBI single on a defensive swing that landed in Left CF to score Perdomo and put Lakewood up 3-2 .Anthony Hewitt was 2-3 in the game, and Perdomo finished 1-2 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored.
On Tuesday, the same 2 teams will match up for the final game of the 3 game series, and the final game of the 7 game home stand for Lakewood. LHP Ervis Manzanillo will start for Lakewood. He is 3-2 with a 4.50 ERA. RHP Luis Neal gets the start for Delmarva. Neal is 3-5 with a 5.54 ERA. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 6:35 pm at FirstEnergy Park.
