Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 30, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators overcame a three-run deficit for a 4-3 win over the Hagerstown Suns to complete a doubleheader sweep on Monday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Dan Black led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a home run (5) off Wilson Eusebio to give Kannapolis its first lead, 4-3, over the Suns.
Hagerstown starter Sammy Solis kept Kannapolis quiet, allowing one hit in four innings of work, before the Intimidators finally got to him in the fifth. Black led off the inning with a double, and two batters later Kyle Eveland walked to set up Kenny Gilbert's two-run triple that ended with him sliding head-first into third base. Juan Silverio brought home Gilbert with groundout to tie the game, 3-3.
The Suns struck for three runs in the top of the fourth inning off starter Phil Negus, as Brett Newsome and Mills Rogers led off the frame with singles, and Sean Nicol followed with an RBI-double. One batter later, Cole Leonida dropped a ball into centerfield that got past Trayce Thompson's diving attempt and rolled to the wall for a two- run triple, giving Hagerstown a 3-0 lead.
Negus allowed three runs on seven hits in three innings of work, and Kevin Moran came in to keep an inherited runner on third base in the fourth inning to get out of the frame. Moran retired nine of the first 10 batters he faced in relief. Jake Wilson came into the game with the tying runner on third base in the top of the seventh and shut the door on the Suns for the save (4).
Hagerstown's Bryce Harper went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a walk in the game.
Kannapolis and Hagerstown wrap up the four-game series on Tuesday night at Fieldcrest Cannon stadium as RHP Steven Upchurch takes the mound for the Intimidators against LHP Robbie Ray. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
