Rome Emperors News Release

Rome, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets defeated the Rome Braves Monday afternoon in front of 2,208 fans at State Mutual Stadium. Tomorrow will be the rubber game of the series before the Braves head on the road for a seven game road trip.

The GreenJackets got on the board in the top of the first inning with two runs on a throwing error by Christian Bethancourt and a sacrifice fly by Drew Biery. Augusta added another run in the second thanks to an RBI double by Devin Harris to make the score 3-0.

The Braves cut the lead to one on a Hilton Richardson (2) two run homer in the third inning. The GreenJackets answered in the top of the fourth with two runs on a two run single by Carlos Willoughby making it a 5-2 score.

Rome made it a 5-3 game in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homerun by Evan Gattis (4) but that would be all the offense could muster on the afternoon. Augusta would add to their lead with two runs in the sixth and eighth and a single run in the ninth giving Augusta the 10-3 win.

Gaspar Santiago (1-0) gets his first win for Augusta, while Carlos Perez (3-6) gets the loss for Rome.

The series concludes tomorrow at 7PM. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
