Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - For five straight games the BlueClaws offense bullied opposing pitching staffs, averaging more than ten hits per game. Tuesday night they finally met their match.

Suns starter Daniel Rosenbaum pitched six stellar innings, giving up only two hits, one walk, and striking out three. Wanel Vasquez and Dean Weaver (1-0) then followed him up by giving up just one run on three hits in four combined innings of work.

17-year old outfielder Domingo Santana put the BlueClaws on the board with a solo shot off Vasquez to tie the game at one in the top of the seventh. Santana went 2-for-3 with an RBI on the night.

The score stayed tied until the bottom of the tenth. Luke Wertz (0-1) walked leadoff hitter Sandy Leone, who was then sacrificed to second. Facing Jordan Ellis, Suns second baseman Jeff Kobernus would pick up one of his four hits to drive home Leone to win the ballgame.

Starter Nick Hernandez had a terrific outing go to waste for the BlueClaws. He gave up three hits and one earned run in six innings, striking out five. He also picked two runners off first base and one off second.

ClawsNotes: Lakewood went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and stranded eight on the basepaths in the one run loss.

The BlueClaws will open at FirstEnergy Park on Friday, April 16th when they raise the 2009 South Atlantic League Championship Banner. April 17th and 18th comprise Dollar Weekend (courtesy of the Asbury Park Press). Tickets are on sale now at 732-901-7000 or online at BlueClaws.com.
