Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
Savannah, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (5-1) flew by the Savannah Sand Gnats (3-3) with an 8-3 win Tuesday night at Historic Grayson Stadium.
The GreenJackets broke the game open with a four-run top of the fifth against Gnats starter Armando Rodriguez and reliever Erik Turgeon. The Augusta rally began with two outs and the bases empty. A single and a walk chased Rodriguez from the game. The first batter Turgeon faced, first baseman Luke Anders, doubled down the right field line, bringing home two runs for a 4-2 Augusta lead. A two-base error and a wild pitch helped Augusta score twice more in the inning for a 6-2 advantage.
Augusta pitching did not retire the Gnats in order once all night. Savannah left the bases loaded twice, in the fourth and ninth innings. Shortstop Wilmer Flores was 3-5 with a run scored. Both second baseman Alonzo Harris and first baseman Jeff Flagg tripled as part of two-hit evenings.
LHP Jimmy Fuller (1-0, 1.00) takes on RHP Chris Heston (0-0, 0.00) Wednesday at 7:05 in game three of this four-game series. The Gnats pregame show on News/Talk 630 WBMQ and online at www.sandgnats.com begins at 6:50 pm.
