Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Suns snapped their four-game losing streak with a Jeff Kobernus walk-off RBI single in the tenth for a 2-1 Hagerstown win over Lakewood on Tuesday night.

Hagerstown scored first in the third inning. With Sandy Leon on second and one away, second baseman Jeff Kobernus hit a double down the third base line, scoring Leon for a 1-0 lead.

The Suns were led by the strong pitching of Daniel Rosenbaum, who pitched six scoreless innings in his start without allowing a run and striking out three.

In the top of the seventh with two outs, designated hitter Domingo Santana hit a home run to right field off Wanel Vasquez to tie the game at one.

The game went into extras, the second time in the last three games the Suns have played more than nine innings.

In the bottom of the tenth, Sandy Leon walked and was replaced on first by Sean Nicol. After Eury Perez made a sacrifice bunt, Kobernus drove a single into left off Jordan Ellis. Nicol raced to the plate and avoided the tag for the winning run.

Kobernus finished the day going 4-for-5 with both Hagerstown RBIs, the first multi-RBI game for the Suns this season.

Dean Weaver (1-0) earned the win after pitching the ninth and tenth, not allowing a run with two strikeouts. The Suns pitching staff held Lakewood to just five hits on the night.

Nate Hernandez pitched strong for the BlueClaws, going seven innings with seven strikeouts and one run allowed in the no-decision. Luke Wertz (0-1) picked up the loss, being charged with one run in 2 1/3 innings with three strikeouts, walking the eventual winning run.

The Suns improve to 2-4 and snap a four-game losing streak. The BlueClaws fall to 3-3 on the season. Game three of the four-game series will be on Wednesday at 6:35. Gates to Municipal Stadium will open at 6:00 p.m.
