Blue Jackets Acquire Trevor Smith for Nate Guenin

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired center Trevor Smith from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenseman Nate Guenin, Blue Jackets Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Howson announced today. Smith has been assigned to the Springfield Falcons, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate.

Smith, 25, has tallied 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points and 16 penalty minutes in 35 games this season with the Syracuse Crunch, Anaheim's AHL affiliate. He leads the club in goals, assists, points and shorthanded goals (1, tied). He has collected 84-92-176 and 147 penalty minutes in 249 career AHL games with Bridgeport and Syracuse, including 21-26-47 and 73 penalty minutes in 77 games with Bridgeport in 2009-10.

The North Vancouver, British Columbia native made his NHL debut with the New York Islanders on December 31, 2008 vs. Florida. He has registered 1-0-1 in seven career NHL games with the Islanders, all during the 2008-09 season. He also tallied a career-high 30-32-62 and 40 penalty minutes in 76 games with Bridgeport that year. Prior to his professional career, he spent two seasons at the University of New Hampshire from 2005-07, where he tallied 31-32-63, 73 penalty minutes and was +11 in 78 career games. He was named NCAA East Second Team All-American in 2007.
