Griffins Sign Rankin to PTO

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday signed right wing Evan Rankin to a professional tryout.

Rankin, 24, has appeared in 30 games with the ECHL's Toledo Walleye this season, ranking among the team's leaders with 12 goals (2nd), 12 assists (T4th), 24 points (3rd), two power play goals (T3rd) and 97 shots (1st). A native of Portage, Mich., Rankin made his AHL debut last season by skating in four contests with the Manitoba Moose and netted his first AHL goal during his first game on Jan. 23, 2010 at Hershey.

Prior to turning pro in 2008-09 with Rio Grande Valley (CHL), Rankin played four years at the University of Notre Dame. He will be available to make his Griffins debut on Wednesday when Grand Rapids hosts the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
