
Riopel Loaned to Greenville

The Adirondack Phantoms have announced that goalie Nic Riopel has been loaned to the Greenville (SC) Road Warriors of the ECHL according to Head Coach Joe Paterson.
Riopel had been with the Phantoms since his callup from Greenville on November 17. He played in 11 games going 3-7-0, 3.55, .874. He won three of his last five starts for the Phantoms including his first ever AHL shutout on Tuesday, December 28. In that game he made 26 saves in the 2-0 win at Syracuse.
The Phantoms two active goalies on the roster currently are Brian Stewart and Johan Backlund. Although Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren has said that Michael Leighton could be assigned to the Phantoms upon clearing waivers.
Nic Riopel, 21, was a 5th round choice of the Flyers in 2009 out of Moncton of the QMJHL. The native of Beloeil, PQ won Quebec League Player of the Year honors as well as Goaltender of the Year going 43-11-4, 2.05, .930.
He made his professional debut in the first ever Adirondack Phantoms game on October 3, 2009. He played in 10 games with the Phantoms last season going 4-6-0, 3.35, .893 and then in December was sent back to Canadian Major Junior so he could get more playing time. In his last season with Moncton he went 19-5-0, 2.06, .918.
Riopel began the season with the Flyers' ECHL affiliate in Greenville where he won ECHL Goalie of the Week for the period from October 25 - October 31 with a 2-0-0 record, 1.50 GAA, and .944 save percentage. On November 12 he earned his first pro shutout with 32 saves vs. the Florida Everblades. He is 6-2-1, 2.65, .918 with the Greenville Road Warriors this season.
