Anaheim Acquires Defenseman Nate Guenin from Columbus in Exchange for Center Trevor Smith

Syracuse, NYanuary 4, 2011) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Anaheim Ducks have acquired defenseman Nate Guenin from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for center Trevor Smith.

Guenin, 28, has appeared in 30 games with Springfield this season, collecting five points (0g, 5a) and 21 penalty minutes, while ranking second on the club with a +8 plus/minus rating. In addition, he skated in three games for Columbus this year, going scoreless with two penalty minutes while averaging 14:47 time-on-ice.

A native of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, Guenin was originally selected by the NY Rangers in the third round, 127th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in 17 career NHL games with Philadelphia (2006-09), Pittsburgh (2009-10) and Columbus (2010-11), scoring two points (0g, 2a) with eight penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut with Philadelphia on January 18, 2007 vs. the NY Islanders and collected his first two career NHL points with a pair of assists on March 31, 2007 vs. the NY Rangers.

Smith, 25, appeared in 35 games with the Crunch this season, recording 27 points (12g, 15a) with 16 penalty minutes. In addition, Smith has skated in seven career NHL games, all with the NY Islanders during the 2008-09 season, tallying one point (1g, 0a). A native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Smith was signed by Anaheim as a free agent on July 2, 2010.

The Crunch continue their season-high seven-game road trip with a 7:05 p.m. match-up at Binghamton on Friday, January 7 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Syracuse returns home to The Oncenter War Memorial Arena on January 15 for a 7:30 p.m. contest vs. rival Rochester.
