Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, played an intra-squad scrimmage at Bridgeport's Wonderland of Ice this morning. Led by two Eric Manlow goals and three points apiece from linemates Jeff Hamilton and Martin Kariya, the Black Team defeated the White Team 4-2. The game was played in two 25-minutes halves with one team skating on the power play for the last ten minutes of each half allowing the Sound Tigers to work on special teams.

The scrimmage featured a very fast pace and some real-game intensity, which was evidenced by a minor altercation involving Robin Gomez of the Black Team and Kevin Colley of the White Team with just over ten minutes left in the first half. Teammates quickly separated Gomez and Colley.

White Team Netminder Wade Dubielewicz then robbed Manlow with a great glove save less than a half-minute later. Scott Stirling also made a nice save for the White Team late in the game denying the Black Team's Nathan Gillies in the final two minutes of play.

Manlow's second goal of the game off assists by Hamilton and Kariya made it 4-1 Black Team 11:14 into the second half. The White Team then went on its five-on-four and five-on-three power plays, and Preston Mizzi tapped home the rebound of a Ftorek shot that had hit the post inside the final two minutes of play.
