Buffalo Bisons News Release
The red-hot Bisons used an explosive seven-run eighth inning to rally past the Mets, 10-4, Thursday night from Trenton Thunder Ballpark. The Herd set 12 men to the plate in the decisive inning that gave them five straight victories over Syracuse and improved their record to 8-1 on the final homestand away from Buffalo, NY.
In a back-and-forth affair, the Mets rallied from 3-0 down early to take a 5-4 into the eighth inning needing just six outs to defeat the Bisons. But that lead lasted just eight pitches as Cullen Large led off the frame with grounder up the middle for a base hit before Riley Adams launched his seventh home run of the year out to left to put the Bisons ahead, 5-4.
But Buffalo was far from done in a seven-hit inning that didn't end until both Large and Adams collected another base hit. Before that, the team loaded the bases on a Richard Urena single, a Dilson Herrera hit by pitch and a Logan Warmoth walk. Tyler White, who opened the scoring with his sixth home run of the year in the first inning, drove home two more with a single over the left side of the Mets infield. Christian Colon then joined in with a two-run single of his own before Adams struck again with an RBI-knock to center.
A 4-3 deficit was now a 10-4 advantage that the Bisons easily took care of to improve to 41-25 on the season.
The Bisons scored solo runs in the first, third and fourth inning to build their early 3-0 lead. Leading off the bottom of the 4th with a double, Adams put himself in a prime position for the Bisons to add to their two-run lead. Urena did his job for the Herd, moving Adams to third on a groundout, and Herrera finished the job, scoring Adams on a single to center field.
Adams was a huge part of the Bisons' success, going 4-for-5 at the plate. The young slugger had three runs batted in and two extra-base hits, including the game-winning home run. When asked about that game winning homerun, Adams stated, "The pitcher was throwing sharp cutters, and I was looking to get a pitch on the inside of the plate, so I could barrel it up."
Syracuse took the 4-3 lead after scoring four runs in the fifth. Countering with a leadoff double of his own in the top of the 5th, Wilfredo Tovar put some pressure on the Bisons. Orlando Calixte singled soon after to left field, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Martin Cervenka did his job for the Mets, flying out deep to center field to score Tovar from third and cut the Herd's lead to two runs.
Syracuse kept the pressure on with a walk, putting runners on first and second, and a double steal then moved both runners into scoring position for the Mets. Zach Logue was able to strike out the next batter, but a hard-hit line drive scored Calixte from third for the rival. On the very next at-bat, Brandon Drury doubled off of the left-field wall, scoring two more runs for Syracuse, and the Mets gained a 4-3 lead over the Bisons.
Zach Logue got his sixth start on the mound for the Bisons and started strong in this one, holding the Mets to no runs and no hits through four innings, with seven strikeouts. Syracuse managed to get to Logue in the top of the 5th though, scoring four runs on four hits to take a lead over the Herd. The southpaw's final stat line included four earned runs, eight strikeouts, and just two walks through five innings.
The Bisons (41-25) and Mets (23-45) continue the series on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm. The Herd's starter on the mound is yet to be announced.
