Big Inning Moves Bisons Past Syracuse Yet Again, 10-6
July 23, 2021 - International League (IL)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
In what has been a dominated week against their Thruway Series rival from Syracuse, the Bisons used a familiar script to notch a 10-6 victory over the Mets on Friday night from Trenton Thunder Ballpark.
For the third straight game, the Herd rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Mets. And just like Thursday's victory that included an eight-run rally in the eighth, one inning was all it took.
Buffalo scored five times in the fifth inning on Friday, sending nine men to the plate and making quick work of a 4-3 deficit before coasting to another win. Tyler White drove in the first two runs when he golfed a two-run double off the base of the wall in left-center. The eventual game-winning hit gave the veteran an impressive eight RBI in the last four games against the Mets.
Now with the lead, the Bisons kept the pedal down. Two pitches after the go-ahead double, Christian Colon lined a base hit in to centerfield to score White. Then after a Cullen Large walk, Riley Adams greeted reliever Geoff Hartlieb with a booming double down the left field line. When the dust had settled, the Bisons had five runs on five hits before the second out of the inning was recorded.
Buffalo also trailed 3-0 early in the night as the Mets scored one in the first inning and added two more in the second off Bisons starter, Anthony Kay. That lead was erased by the Herd in the third as Dilson Herrera and Nash Knight led off the inning with back-to-back singles before outfielder Logan Warmoth hit an opposite-field three-run home run for his sixth blast of the season.
Both teams scored solo runs in the seventh and the eighth innings to prolong a game that took three hours and 24 minutes to complete. Richard Urena drove in Adams with a base hit in the seventh and Kevin Smith walked to lead off the eighth before a stolen base, a wild pitch and a ground out brought him home for the 10th run of the game.
The Bisons have won four straight to begin their series with the Mets and are now 9-1 in their last homestand in Trenton with two more games against Syracuse this weekend.
Buffalo used six pitchers to complete the victory, with none working more than three innings. Tyler Chatwood (1-0) earned his first win with the Herd for working the fifth inning before the team's big rally. He allowed a run on three hits and a walk in the Syracuse half of the fifth.
Kirby Snead worked two innings and allowed an unearned run on two walks and passed ball. The most affective arm out of the Bisons pen was Bryan Baker, who closed out the win with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Now an impressive 17-games over the .500 mark at 42-25, the Bisons take on the Mets again on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
