Today's Game
Tonight, the Bisons host the Pawtucket Red Sox in the second game of a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field (6:05 p.m.). The Herd is 3-1 on its current homestand, including a 7-5 win in last night's series opener with the PawSox. Buffalo has won five of their last six games at Coca-Cola Field and nine of 13 overall.
Last Game (BUF 7, PAW 5)
The Bisons came back from down four runs to win for the first time in 2016. INF Devon Travis sparked the Herd offense with three hits, including an RBI-double in a three-run 2nd inning and an RBI-single in the team's four-run 4th. OF Domonic Brown added his team-best sixth home run of the season and OF Darrell Ceciliani had two RBI.
vs. Pawtucket (3-4)
The Bisons and PawSox are back even. With Buffalo's win last night, the teams have split their 316 modern era contests with 158 wins a side. Pawtucket has the 4-3 edge this season with six of the seven games being decided by three runs or less.
Drew Hutchison
RHP Drew Hutchison is making his eighth start of the season tonight, but only his second at Coca-Cola Field. The righty allowed two unearned runs in six innings but took the tough defeat on Sunday in Norfolk. He struck out eight in that start and has now racked up 44 strikeouts to only 32 hits allowed in 38.1 innings this year.
Devon Travis
INF Devon Travis joined the Bisons on an MLB injury rehab assignment yesterday and had three line drive hits in four at-bats. Travis has hit in all five rehab games he's played (four with Dunedin (A)), with seven runs driven in. The second baseman had left shoulder surgery in late October after missing the last two months of 2015.
Bully for the Pen
The Bisons are 9-4 in their last 13 games. The bullpen has recorded the save in all nine of those victories and now has two more saves (15) than any other IL club. Since May 7, the pen has posted a 1.17 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 38.1 innings of work. Bisons relievers have combined to allow just six of 48 inherited runners to score all year (12.5%).
Bisons Bits
Buffalo is 13-10 in games decided by two runs or less...The Bisons have used just nine different starters this season with the current rotation accounting for 34 of the team's 41 starts. Last year, the Herd used 12 starters in the first 41 games...The Bisons 14 runs in their last two games match their offense output for the seven games prior to that, May 11-17...The Bisons are 3rd in the IL with a 3.19 team ERA.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (20-23) snapped their five-game losing streak with a 3-2 win in 11 innings last night in Minnesota. SS Troy Tulowitzki singled home former Bisons' OF Ezequiel Carrera for the game-winning run. RHP Marco Estrada struck out nine over eight brilliant innings but did not earn a decision. Toronto takes on the Twins again tonight at 8:10 p.m.
