Knapp's Walk-Off Double Lifts Pigs in 15th, 8-7

Andrew Knapp's walk-off double in the bottom of the 15th lifted the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (22-18) to an 8-7 win over the Toledo Mud Hens (17-22) on Thursday night at Coca-Cola Park.

In the bottom of the 15th, Brock Stassi drew a leadoff walk, pinch-runner Cam Perkins advanced to second on a sac bunt and scored on Knapp's double to lift the Pigs to the 8-7 victory.

C Miguel Gonzalez (0.1 IP, H, R, ER, 2 BB) was dealt the loss for the Mud Hens and drops to 0-1 on the season.

LHP James Russell (1.1 IP, 2 H, BB) earned the win for the IronPigs and is now 1-0 on the season.

Toledo had runners at second and third with two outs in the top of the 15th, but Russell was able to get Jordany Valdespin to ground out to the mound and end the inning.

In the top of the 14th, Casey McGehee led off with a single, advanced to second on a sac bunt, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Wynton Bernard's RBI single to give the Mud Hens a 6-5 lead. Anthony Gose followed with an RBI single of his own to open up a 7-5 lead.

The Pigs rallied for a pair in the bottom half of the inning to tie things at seven apiece. Three straight doubles from Knapp, Carlos Alonso and Cedric Hunter accounted for the runs in the inning. Both runs were charged to RHP Angel Nesbitt (1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER).

Toledo initially took the lead in the top of the 12th, Tyler Collins led off with a double and scored when pinch-hitter Argenis Diaz grounded into a fielder's choice back to the mound, LHP Bobby LaFromboise (2.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) threw to second, but nobody was covering the bag and Collins scampered home to give the Mud Hens a 4-3 lead. Valdespin's RBI single later in the frame extended the lead to 5-3.

A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases for the Pigs in the bottom of the 12th and Alonso tied things at five apiece with a two-run single off of Rondon.

Trailing 3-1, Toledo tied it at three with a pair of runs of in the ninth as Gose plated a run with a sac fly and Dixon Machado's two-out RBI single tied the game. Both runs were charged to RHP Edward Mujica (1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB).

The IronPigs took the lead for the time being at 2-1 with a run in the sixth as Hunter (2-7, 2B, RBI, R) led off with a single, advanced to third on a single and scored on Darin Ruf's sac fly. The run was charged to RHP Dustin Molleken (1.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, K).

The Pigs took a 1-0 lead with a run in the third when Alonso (2-6, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R) reached on an error charged to McGehee and later scored on Taylor Featherston's two-out RBI triple to left center.

Mud Hens starter Buck Farmer (n/d) gave up the one run (none earned) on one hit to go along with a walk and four strikeouts in 5.0 IP.

Valdespin's solo shot in the top of the fifth off of Pigs starter David Buchanan tied things at one apiece for the Mud Hens. Toledo had runners at first and second with one out later in the inning, but a leaping snag of a line drive at first base by Stassi ended the inning as Stassi was able to double the runner off of first.

Buchanan (n/d) allowed the one run on eight hits while walking one and fanning one in seven innings of work.

Featherston's solo shot in the bottom of the eighth off of RHP Bobby Parnell (1.0 IP, H, R, ER, K) provided an insurance run for the IronPigs and opened up a 3-1 lead. The home run was Featherston's (3-6, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, R) fourth of the season.

Trailing 2-1, Toledo had the potential tying run at third with two outs in the eighth, but Garcia was able to get Nate Schierholtz to ground to second and end the threat.

RHP Michael Mariot (2.0 IP, H, 3 K) and RHP Luis Garcia (1.0 IP, BB) each had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

The series continues on Friday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Jake Thompson (2-4, 3.32) will toe the rubber for Lehigh Valley against Toledo LHP Matt Boyd (1-3, 1.93).
