Senior Wishes, WNY's only program dedicated to enriching the lives of low-income senior citizens by granting meaningful wishes, will be granting an upcoming wish for Ted Gonsiorek, 90 years young and a lifelong baseball fan. His daughter wrote to Senior Wishes on his behalf, with his wish to sit in a suite with his family and share their love of baseball. Mr. Gonsiorek played baseball as a young boy, coached his son's team and watched his children play baseball and softball as they grew up.

Mr. Gonsiorek, son of Polish immigrants Jacob and Sophia Gonsiorek, was the youngest of five children. Ted is the last remaining. He has been a life-long resident of Lackawanna, having worked at Bethlehem Steel for 38 years, and has been married 55 wonderful years to his wife and best friend Alice. After retiring, Mr. Gonsiorek worked for OLV Hospital as a Security Guard and volunteered at Col. Weber VFW Post 898. They had 3 children of their own and they took two more children into their lives when they needed a family. Ted and Alice have huge hearts and now ten grandchildren to spend time with, one of their greatest joys.

Ted served in the Pacific Theatre in WWII for two years. He also has a love of singing and was in two choirs, St. Barbara's Choir and St. Hyacinths All Male Four Part Harmony Choir. His daughter said, "After meeting Wendy, my dad was so happy and had a spring in his step that Senior Wishes was going to grant this wish for all of his children and grandchildren to be together doing something we all love."

Established in 2013 by the United Church Home Society (UCHS), Senior Wishes' mission is to honor and recognize the lifelong contributions of our oldest citizens by granting them wishes that will make a significant impact on a senior's quality of life or bring them great joy. Wishes may be to reconnect with a loved one, visit a hometown, visit a favorite place, participate in an activity a person used to do, celebrate a passion or fulfill a life-long dream. Low income seniors are invited to learn more and apply for a wish at SeniorWishes.org, or by calling 508-2121.
