Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky - The Louisville Bats (38-40) fell 5-0 to the Syracuse Chiefs (27-51) in game one of a three game series on Monday night.
The Chiefs were the first to put runs on the board, doing so in the top of the sixth with an RBI single by Jason Martinson and a sacrifice fly by Mario Lisson, making it a 2-0 game.
Syracuse right-hander A.J Cole (0-4, 4.40) exited the game after two innings due to an injury, he gave up just two hits and had one strikeout. Replacing Cole in the third inning was righty Bruce Billings (W, 3-3, 3.58), he went four innings and gave up just three hits and struck out three.
Right-hander Keyvius Sampson's (L, 1-2, 4.95) night was finished after six full innings pitched for Louisville. He gave up six hits, two earned runs, walked two and struck out nine. Jose De La Torre came on in relief in the seventh inning. Sampson's nine punch outs are the most he has recorded in a game since he fanned 12 batters for San Antonio on July 20, 2013.
The Chiefs kept the runs coming in the ninth inning with an RBI single by Caleb Ramsey and a two-run homer by pinch hitter Josh Johnson to increase the lead to 5-0 for the final score.
Tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. the Bats and Chiefs will face off with lefty David Holmberg (4-5, 4.64) on the hill for Louisville and righty Taylor Jordan (2-3, 2.81) for Syracuse.
