Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Mud Hens were finally back at home Monday night against the Durham Bulls after a week long road trip that saw them go 2-3 against both the Durham Bulls and the Norfolk Tides. Taking the ball for Toledo was ace Buck Farmer, looking to add to his team high six wins with another victory at Fifth Third Field against the Bulls.

The big right-hander from Georgia did not disappoint, as he put together a marvelous outing, throwing 7.0 innings allowing just one run on seven hits. Farmer added significantly to his season strikeout total of 67 after sending eight Bulls back to the dugout via the K. For Durham, Everett Teaford went six innings against the Toledo lineup surrendering three runs on five hits, and was tagged with the loss.

Detroit Tigers' backstop Alex Avila drove in Toledo's first run of the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout, and finished 0-3 on the night with the one run batted in. Corey Jones followed the Avila at bat with a base hit of his own and came around to score on a Xavier Avery RBI knock to center field putting the Hens up 2-0. However, the Hen that shined brightest Monday night was its biggest, Steven Moya. The 6'7" outfielder had himself a two homer game, teeing off on Durham offerings in both the fourth and the seventh innings, driving in three of the four Toledo runs. Moya's season total now stands at eight long balls.

Monday night's game saw some new faces making their Toledo debuts. Alexi Casilla, who started the day on the Durham Bulls roster, simply switched dugouts after being acquired by the Tigers in a trade. Casilla displayed some solid defense at second base while going 1-3 in his debut against his former team. On the mound, Jeff Ferrell threw a scoreless ninth to record his first save of the season after being promoted from Double-A Erie, striking out one.

The two teams are back at it Tuesday night at 7:00 pm in game two of the series. For Toledo it will be Thad Weber toeing the rubber, looking to pick up his sixth win of the season.
