Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in final game of a four-game home-and-home series at Dunn Tire Park (6:05 p.m.).The Herd is looking for the sweep after victories of 4-1, 8-7 (10 innings) and 7-4 against the Wings. On the mound for Buffalo will be LHP Eric DuBose. The southpaw threw 3.0 innings last Thursday before allowing the bullpen to get some work in a 6-2 win at Scranton/WB (3H, 2ER, 3K). The Red Wings will counter with RHP Nick Blackburn
NORTHERN LEADERS: The Bisons have been in first place in the IL North division since May 5 (60 consecutive days). The Herd is currently 5-1 in a seven-game stretch against division rivals the Yankees and the Red Wings.
VS. THE WINGS: The Bisons have won five straight over the rival Rochester Red Wings (5-2 overall in 2007). Four of those victories came at Frontier Field. The Herd is hitting .310 with 12 home runs in the seven games against the Wings this year.
RED-HOT HERD: With last night's win, the Bisons have matched a pair of season highs. This is Buffalo's second five-game winning streak of the year, having also won five straight, April 28-May 2. The Herd is also 12-games over the .500 mark, a record they last had at 24-12 on May 16. In the last 5 games, Buffalo is hitting .304 (56-184) with nine home runs. Since the Bisons took both ends of a doubleheader against Louisville on June 20, the team has won 10 of 13 games.
LUNAR SHOTS: Last night, Hector Luna became the third Bisons player to hit two homers in a game this year. Brad Snyder (5/17) and Keith Ginter (5/1) are the other two hitters to accomplish the feat. When Luis Rivas followed Luna with another home run in the first inning, they became the second tandem to hit back-to-back shots in 2007 (Ben Francisco, & Rivas, 6/4).
THRUWAY SERIES: The Bisons (8-4) now have a two-game lead over second place Rochester (5-5) in the 2007 Thruway Cup Series. Syracuse (2-6) is in third place, four games behind the Herd.
A TRADITION CONTINUES: After tonight's game, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus will perform a concert prior to the largest fireworks display of the season. In the previous 12 years (since 1995), the Bisons Independence Eve Celebration has brought 229,550 fans to Dunn Tire Park. There will also be several tributes to the United States Armed Forces tonight.
