Indianapolis Indians News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville collected 17 hits and drew eight walks in a 13-4 victory over Indianapolis before a sellout crowd of 13,131 Tuesday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
The Bats improve to 46-39 on the season and 26-19 at home with their season-best sixth straight win, while the Indians fall to 46-38 overall and 20-24 on the road. Louisville also pulls to within one-half game of the Tribe in the International League's Wild Card race.
Six Louisville hitters recorded multi-hit efforts in the club's most lopsided win since May 19. 2B Jeff Keppinger (3-for-6, 1 R, 2 RBI) and SS Pedro Lopez (3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) collected three base knocks apiece, while 1B Joey Votto (2-for-4, 2 RBI), LF Dewayne Wise (2-for-5, 2 R, 1 RBI), C Ryan Jorgensen (2-for-4, 2 R) and CF Chris Dickerson (2-for-3, 2 R, 3 RBI) registered two hits each.
The contest was knotted at three through four and one-half innings, but the Bats exploded for 10 runs over their final four at-bats to win easily. Louisville had 18 runners reach base over those same four frames as three Tribe relievers combined to allow 13 hits and five walks over 3.2 innings.
Louisville grabbed a lead it would not relinquish in the fifth. Lopez drilled a triple to right center and scored on Votto's single to the same spot.
The Bats added two runs in the sixth, three in the seventh and four in the eighth. Keppinger highlighted the sixth with an RBI single. Dickerson keyed the seventh with a two-run triple. Then, in the eighth, six consecutive Louisville hitters reached on RBI singles and walks.
Bats RHP Julio Manon (0.1 IP, 1 H) was credited with the win in his first decision of 2007. Indians RHP Mark Corey (1.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO) was pinned with the loss, falling to 1-1.
Neither starter -- Louisville RHP Elizardo Ramirez (4.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 2 SO) or Indianapolis LHP Sean Burnett (1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) -- figured in the decision.
Tribe SS Brian Bixler extended his hitting streak to nine games by going 1-for-5 with one run, while CF Adam Boeve (2-for-4, 1 R) and 3B Russ Johnson (2-for-4) and C Carlos Maldonado (2-for-3, 1 R, 2 RBI) managed two base knocks apiece.
The Bats finish their 12-game homestand 9-3, while the Indians have dropped 13 of their past 15 road tilts.
Indianapolis and Louisville now travel north on Interstate 65 to wrap up the three-game, home-and-home series on Wednesday at 6 p.m. RHP Luis Munoz is scheduled to make his Indians debut, while RHP Richie Gardner is expected to get the nod for the Bats.
Wednesday night's Fourth of July contest at Victory Field is sold out. A limited number of standing-room-only tickets will be made available at game time.
The game will be televised by WHMB-TV 40 with Howard Kellman and Bernie Allen. The affair will also be carried by ESPN-950 and IndyIndians.com with Scott McCauley and Greg Rakestraw.
The Tribe, which owns the International League's best home record at 26-14, has won 17 of its last 21 games at Victory Field.
