Streaking Bats Smoke Indians, 13-4

LOUISVILLE, KY- Louisville (46-39) continued its hot play Tuesday night, defeating the Indianapolis Indians (46-38) 13-4, in front of a sell out crowd of 13,131. The Bats extended their season-high win streak to six games, and pulled to within half a game of the second place Indians in the International League West standings.

Bats' pitcher Brian Shackelford came on in relief in the eighth inning, which marked his 167th as a member of the Bats, the most for any pitcher in franchise history. RHP Julio Manon (1-0, 0.00) gets credit for the win. Starting pitcher Elizardo Ramirez allowed three runs in 4.2 innings, but did not factor in the decision.

RHP Mark Corey (1-1, 4.00) picks up the loss for Indianapolis. Corey pitched 1.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits.

Pedro Lopez led the Bats from the plate tonight. Lopez finished the game going 3-for-4, finishing a home run shy of the cycle. He also scored twice and had two RBI. In his last 11 games, Lopez is batting .500, going 14-for-28 over that stretch. Chris Dickerson and Anderson Machado also tripled for the Bats. Dickerson went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Machado went 1-for-3.

Coming into the tonight's game, the Bats hadn't allowed a run since the seventh inning of Sunday night's game against Columbus. With runners on first and third in the top of the third inning, Indianapolis first baseman, Brad Eldred, hit a RBI single to left field, ending the Bats shutout streak at 22 innings. Eldred finished the game 1-for-5. Indians' center fielder, Adam Boeve, went 2-for-4 and scored once.

Wednesday, the Bats hit the road for the first time since June 21. Louisville will make the short trip up I-65 for a single game against these same Indianapolis Indians, before heading to Toledo for a two-game series beginning Thursday. RHP Richie Gardner (2-0, 3.63) will take the mound for Louisville tomorrow night, while RHP Luis Munoz (8-4, 3.36 w/Altoona) gets the start for the Indians. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
