Bulls Knock Three Homers in Win Over Toledo

Durham, NC - Michel Hernandez tied the game with a two-out three-run home run in the fourth inning and Justin Ruggiano put the Bulls ahead in their final at-bat with an RBI-single to defeat the Toledo Mud Hens, 6-5 in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,153 on Wednesday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The Bulls were forced to come from behind as Toledo jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after Ryan Raburn hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Dane Sardinha hit a sacrifice fly to score run in the second inning. Joel Guzman was able to get the Bulls offense started though with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning, and Jason Pridie pulled the Bulls within one in the third inning with a solo home run. The Mud Hens added two run in the top of the fourth inning with RBIs from Kevin Hooper and Timo Perez, but Hernandez erased the deficit with his three-run home run in the bottom half of the inning. The game remained tied until the eighth inning when Ruggiano's RBI-single off of LHP Vic Darensbourg (3-1) put the Bulls ahead, 6-5.

RHP Juan Salas (1-0) earned the win in his first appearance of the season with the Bulls after pitching a perfect eighth inning with one strikeout and RHP Chad Orvella earned his 12th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning. RHP Tony Peguero started for the Bulls, pitching 3 1/3 innings and allowing all five runs (four earned) on three hits and five walks while striking out two. LHP Jim Connolly went 5 1/3 innings for the Mud Hens, surrendering five runs on five hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

The Bulls will travel to Charlotte to take on the Knights on Wednesday night, with Neil Solondz calling the action beginning at 7 PM on 620 The Bull.
