Today's Game

This evening, the Bisons continue with their final series of the 2018 season in Syracuse, taking on the Chiefs in game two of a four-game series at NBT Bank Stadium. The four-game set will occur throughout Labor Day Weekend and conclude on Labor Day with an afternoon matchup.

Last Game: BUF 4, SYR 7

The Bisons struck first with two runs in the opening inning, but the lead would be short lived. Syracuse answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first, on their way to seven runs off of Herd starter RHP Brandon Cumpton. INF Richard Urena clubbed a two-run home run in the eighth inning to account for Buffalo's last two runs scored.

Syracuse Chiefs (9-6)

The Chiefs are one of four teams the Bisons have a winning record against this season and the only team in their division. Buffalo needs one win in the final series of the season to clinch the 2018 series victory against their Thruway Cup rivals.

Today's Starter: RHP Zach Stewart

RHP Zach Stewart is making his fourth start and 14th appearance overall since being signed to an MiLB deal on July 4. Stewart is making his second straight start for Buffalo. He worked three innings against Pawtucket on August 23 (3H, 1R/ER, 1BB, 3SO).

Roemon Fields

OF Roemon Fields is third in the International League with 25 stolen bases on the season. Fields currently has 70 steals in his three seasons with the Bisons, sitting second in the team's modern era. The outfielder trails OF Dave Roberts, who recorded 97 stolen bases in parts of four seasons with the Bisons.

Richard Urena

INF Richard Urena recorded a three-hit game on Friday night, including a two-run home run in the eighth inning. Urena finished a triple shy of the cycle while tying his season-high for hits in a game.

Dwight Smith Jr.

OF Dwight Smith Jr. went 1-3 against the Chiefs to increase his batting average to .272 on the season. Smith Jr. hit .320 (31-97) in the month of August.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

3B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added his 15th RBI with a first inning double on Friday. The 19 year-old has hit safely in three of his last four games, and has 15RBI in 27 Triple-A games.

Bisons' Bits

C Danny Jansen was recognized as an International League postseason All-Star on Tuesday. It is another in a long list of honors for the back stop in 2018 that includes being named an IL mid-season All-Star, and also playing for Team USA in the 2018 MLB Futures Game.

Roster Moves

The Herd has made 252 total roster moves in 2018, with 73 different players appearing in a game for Buffalo as well. The team has tied their record for most players in a season during the Blue Jays affiliation, which was set in 2014, while establishing a new high for transactions in a single season. The Bisons made 239 roster moves in 2014.

Blue Jays Update

Toronto (61-73) roared back in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the Miami Marlins 6-5 in the opening game of their three-game series. 1B Justin Smoak crushed a pinch-hit grand slam with two out in the top of the ninth to mount the rally. RHP Joe Biagini was credited with the win, while RHP Ken Giles notched his 19th save of the season. RHP Marco Estrada takes his turn in the rotation tonight in the middle game from Marlins Park at 7:10 p.m.
