Memphis Redbirds News Release

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis needed only one run Sunday afternoon to beat Nashville 1-0 at AutoZone Park.

Redbirds starter Anthony Reyes was awesome in his first start after his Major League debut. The Cardinals No. 1 prospect set a Memphis Redbirds franchise record and tied a career-high with 15 strikeouts. Rick Ankiel held the previous high with 14 against Iowa on June 20, 1999. Reyes tossed seven shutout innings, allowed two hits and no walks in a no decision. Reliever Brian Falkenborg (1-0) earned the win in one inning of relief. Ricky Stone pitched the ninth inning to earn his sixth save with the ‘Birds. Brett Evert (0-1) took the loss for the Sounds.

C Robinson Cancel was the offensive hero, driving in the game's lone run with a single in the bottom of the eighth inning. Cancel then threw out Nashville's Dave Krynzel, who was attempting to steal second, in the top of the ninth before Stone struck out Ryan Knox to end the game.

Memphis and Nashville will conclude their series tomorrow night with game time scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Memphis' RHP Adam Wainwright (7-9) will oppose Nashville's RHP Gary Glover (5-2).
