First-place Sounds open homestand Tuesday

After wrapping up their longest road trip of the season, the division-leading Nashville Sounds return to Greer Stadium on Tuesday to begin an eight-game homestand, which consists of two four-game series against the Round Rock Express (AAA-Astros) and the Oklahoma RedHawks (AAA-Rangers). The Sounds currently hold an 8 1/2 game lead in the Pacific Coast League American Northern Division.

Fans can expect a bevy of promotions ranging from Biblical bobbleheads, to ticket discounts, to mini scoreboard clocks. The eight-game homestand will feature the return of some fan favorites as well as some promotions new to Greer Stadium.

The action at the park kicks off on Tuesday at 7 p.m. with Non-Profit Night. All local non-profit groups that submit a ticket request on company letterhead will receive free tickets compliments of BC Headache Powder. It's also GooGoo 2-for-1 Tuesday. Fans can turn in the UPC panel from any flavor GooGoo six-pack at the box office to receive one free ticket when purchasing a ticket of equal or greater value.

Wednesday features a special matinee match-up between the Sounds and the Express. Fans can enjoy fun in the sun at this 12 p.m. day game between two Pacific Coast League powerhouses.

Thursday's 7 p.m. game features the return of one of Greer's most popular promotions as well as a promotion perfect for every movie buff. It's the last Thirsty Thursday the season and thrifty fans can get a beverage for a buck as $1 draft beverages will be served until the end of the fifth inning. GameZnFlix will be on-hand to promote their new online game and movie rental service. Sounds fans in attendance will be offered one free month to try out the service. Fans will also have the chance to prove their movie knowledge with a trivia game with a movie prize pack for winners.

Friday's 7 p.m. contest marks the last chance for fans to participate in faith at the field this season. It's the final Purity Faith Night and the Sounds look to send this renowned promotional night out with a bang.

Youth groups, singles groups, Sunday school classes, or any church-related group can enjoy the fun and fellowship of Purity Faith Night. Fans will be treated to a pre-game concert from hit Christian recording artists Julian Drive and Matthew West, an exciting night of action on the diamond, and a post-game fireworks extravaganza. Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber from the hit show Veggie Tales will throw out the first pitch and will be available for pictures and autographs before and during the game.

This Purity Faith Night also marks the return of Biblical bobbleheads. The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a Daniel in the Lions' Den bobblehead, sponsored by Purity Dairies.

Fans of the famous Greer Stadium guitar scoreboard won't want to miss Saturday's 6 p.m. match-up between the Sounds and RedHawks. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a limited edition, collectible clock in the shape of Greer Stadium's famous scoreboard, sponsored by First Tennessee.

Saturday is also Summer Reading Club Day. Participants who have reached their reading goals receive a free ticket and can march in a parade on the field during pre-game warm-ups. The night will be capped off with the fan-favorite Shoney's fireworks extravaganza. All fans in attendance are invited to stick around immediately following the conclusion of the game for a fantastic fireworks display.

Sunday's 6 p.m. game offers great ticket discounts for fans. Harris Teeter Family Day offers an opportunity to buy one ticket and get one free by showing their Harris Teeter VIC card at the box office when purchasing their tickets. It's also Kids Club Day; all members of the Nashville Sounds Kids Club receive free admission when they show their membership card at the Greer Stadium box office.

Monday's 7 p.m. game boasts Dollar Dog Night. Fans can leave Greer with a full stomach and wallet, as hot dogs are available for $1 at all concession stands. Pepperidge Farms and Piggly Wiggly Monday will also feature ticket deals for Sounds fans. Fans can receive one free ticket when presenting two empty Pepperidge Farms buns or rolls packages at the Sounds ticket office. Fans can also buy one ticket and get one of equal or lesser value free by showing a Piggly Wiggly receipt.

Tuesday's 7 p.m. game marks the end of the series with the RedHawks and the last chance to see the Sounds at Greer Stadium until their final homestand of the season begins on September 2. Tuesday is GooGoo 2-for-1 Tuesday, where fans can turn in a UPC panel from any flavor of GooGoo six-pack to receive one free ticket when purchasing one ticket of equal or greater value

After wrapping up the homestand, the Sounds head out of town for a nine-game road series. The Sounds make a five-day stop in Round Rock and a four-day stop to battle cross-state rival Memphis, before returning to Greer Stadium on September 2 to face Round Rock once again in the final series of the 2005 regular season.
