Big Third Period Lifts Utah Over Las Vegas 4-1

Las Vegas, Nevada - The Utah Grizzlies (18-16-6-6) scored three third period goals to defeat the Las Vegas Wranglers 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the Orleans Arena.

Tied 1-1 entering the third, Andy Sertich (8,9) gave Utah a 2-1 lead 6:23 into the period before adding another goal 12:20 into the frame on the power-play to give the Grizzlies a 3-1 lead.

Tom May (17) made it 4-1 with 1:59 left to go as he fired a puck into an empty-net to set an all-time Grizzlies record with a goal in nine-straight games. May also had assists on both Sertich goals. Rob Hennigar (two assists) had a multi-point night for Utah as well.

Sertich started his three-point night 11:24 into the first period assisting on an Evan Kotsopoulos (12) goal to give Utah a 1-0 lead on a four-on-three power-play situation.

The Utah Grizzlies who have been shorthanded for the last six games, found out that they would only be a 13-skater unit prior to game time when defenseman Evan Stoflet was scratched with an upper-body injury.

Peter Mannino stopped 22 of 23 shots in the victory for Utah. The Grizzlies outshot Las Vegas 39-23 in the game.

Utah returns home Monday and Wednesday with Bakersfield and Friday and Saturday with Stockton for four games in six nights. Face-off for all games will be at 7:05 p.m. at the E-Center.
