
Condors quiet Thunder with 5-4 comeback win

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors scored five consecutive goals in the second and third periods to take a 5-4 comeback win against the Stockton Thunder before 7,522 fans at Stockton Arena on Saturday night.
Stockton (24-22-5, 53pts) received first period goals from LW Mike Lalonde at 4:13, RW Ryan MacMurchy at 11:46 and C Cory Urquhart at 14:13 to take a 3-0 lead through the first 20 minutes. The Condors (19-27-6, 44pts) out-shot the Thunder, 10-8, but Stockton G Andrew Perugini kept Bakersfield off the board in the first.
RW Mike Wirll got the Condors on the board, netting his 13th goal of the season, and third in the last two games, just 33 seconds into the second period. D Andrew Thomas, skating with the Condors for the first time since his AHL recall to Iowa on Nov. 17, and D Tom Morrow registered the assists. Bakersfield limited Stockton to only four shots on goal in the period and held a 24-12 shots advantage through the first 40 minutes.
The Condors came roaring back in the third frame, tallying four straight goals to move ahead late in the period, 5-3. F Andrew Ianiero scored a power play goal at 7:53, and was followed by C Danny LaPointe's first goal as a Condor at 14:04 to tie the game at 3-3. Just 1:54 later, RW Chad Painchaud lit the lamp for the fourth time in the last three games to give the Condors their first lead of the night, 4-3. F Dave Bonk followed suit with his 17th of the campaign, shoveling a loose puck into the back of the net at 17:53 for the eventual game-winner. Stockton scored a late goal at the buzzer, but the Condors held on for the 5-4 win. G Dave McKee stopped 14 of 18 shots in the win, and the Condors have now won five of their last six games, including a current three-game winning streak.
Notes from the Nest:
The Condors head back to Salt Lake City for a pair of games against the Utah Grizzlies on Monday and Wednesday, both at 6:05 p.m. Pacific.
Bakersfield returns home for Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon Weekend, with two afternoon games against the Victoria Salmon Kings. Saturday, Feb. 21 the Veggie Tales come to town, sponsored by Pirate 93.1 and DMW Industries Inc., with a special appearance by Bakersfield native and NY Giants QB David Carr, who will give a motivational speech after the game. The puck drops at noon. On Sunday at 2 p.m. is the conclusion of the Hockey-Thon, sponsored by KBAK-29, KUZZ 107.9 and Bakersfield Californian. Don't miss the Condors Alumni vs. West Coast All-Stars Alumni Game at noon. Doors open at 11:45 a.m.
