Gladiators Weekly Update for February 16th

A winner: Defenseman Scott Marchesi notched his 8th goal of the season for the Gladiators posting the game winning goal in a 2-1 overtime win over Charlotte on February 15th. The game winning goal was his 3rd of the season. His 3 game winning goals shares first for Gwinnett this season with Jordan Fox and Matt Siddall.

Special Edition: Over the previous five seasons, the Gladiators have worn special edition jerseys eleven times including a 2-1 win over the Charlotte Checkers on February 15th. In those eleven games, Gwinnett carries a record of 7-2-2. In the Gladiators inaugural season, Gwinnett wore green jerseys with shamrocks for St. Patrick's Day and beat Pensacola 4-1 on March 12, while losing 3-4 in overtime to Greensboro on March 13. Gwinnett lost 2-1 to Louisiana during the 2004-05 season. In the 2005-06 season, the Gladiators wore desert camouflage jerseys in a salute to the Military and beat Charlotte 6-3 on March 11 and South Carolina 4-3 in a shootout on March 12. During the 2006-07 season while wearing special jerseys as a salute to Atlanta traffic, the Gladiators beat South Carolina 3-1 on February 24 and Pensacola 4-1 on February 25. Last year during the inaugural Pink in the Rink weekend, Gwinnett defeated Wheeling 3-2 and 5-3 on February 8th and 9th and dropped a 4-3 shootout decision to Columbia on February 10th.

To the AHL! Four players were called up to the AHL this week as the Gladiators lost Josh Engel, Matt Siddall, Brennan Turner and Joe Fallon to call ups this week. Engel was called up to the Toronto Marlies on Monday while Siddall returned to the Chicago Wolves for his third stint this year on Wednesday. Brennan Turner made his second trip to Rockford on Wednesday while Joe Fallon joined Turner in Rockford on Thursday. The Gladiators have seen 18 call ups fielded by 14 players so far this season.

A record: The Gladiators surrendered a team record 9 goals in a 9-3 loss to the Mississippi Sea Wolves on February 10th. Gwinnett then matched the feat allowing 9 goals in a 9-3 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays on February 14th. The 9 goals allowed in the contest snapped the Gladiators previous high for most goals allowed in one game of 8 goals posted during each of the past three seasons. Gwinnett first allowed 8 goals in a game on 11/25/05 at South Carolina and was then matched on 12/29/06 @ Pensacola and 1/29/08 vs. Augusta.

A Career best! Gladiators forward Myles Stoesz notched a career high 2 points in the Gladiators 9-3 loss at Mississippi on February 10th. Stoesz collected a goal and an assist for the Gladiators in the loss posting his first multiple point game of his career for a career best. Stoesz is one goal shy of tying his career season best for most points in a season. The forward has posted 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points this year while he finished his rookie campaign last season with 4 goals and 2 assists for Gwinnett.

Multiple Points Game: Forward Travis Fuller collected his fifth multiple point game of the season posting a goal and an assist for Gwinnett in a 9-3 loss at Mississippi on February 10th. Fuller finished his rookie campaign last year with 9 multiple point games in 59 games with Augusta and Cincinnati.

Kroger Family Sunday: The second Kroger Family Sunday of the 2008-09 season is slated for Sunday, February 22nd when the Gladiators host the Florida Everblades at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Fans can get 4 premium level tickets, 2 Gladiators gifts, 2 game programs and a Kroger Family Meal. The Kroger family day deal is available ONLY at the Arena at Gwinnett Center box office. Public Safety Day: Sunday, February 22nd when the Gladiators host the Florida Everblades at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 4:05 p.m. is the Gladiators Public Safety day presented by Amica Insurance. Police and Fire equipment will be on display outside the Arena prior to the game. There will be a silent auction on the concourse during the game to benefit Children's healthcare of Atlanta and there will be a post game charity game between the Atlanta Jr. Knights & Kennesaw State Hockey both teams are selling tickets to raise money for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
