
Big Inning Holds Up for Fourth Straight Win

GRAND CHUTE, WI - A four-run third inning by the Clinton LumberKings was the difference in a 5-3 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Neuroscience Group Field on Wednesday night. Clinton (25-13, 58-49) starter Alberto Guerrero at one point retired 15 straight Timber Rattler (20-18, 51-56) batters in their fourth straight win.
The LumberKings were the first to score - erupting for four-runs against Wisconsin starter Scotty Sunitsch in the top of the third inning. Clinton sent eight men to the plate in the inning which was made possible by the lack of control by Sunitsch (8-11). He walked two and hit two batters in the inning before Bubba Hollins cleared the bases with a three-run double down the line in right to cap the rally.
Sunitsch would stay in to work into the fourth inning but failed to make it throw the frame. He ended his night having logged 3.1 innings and allowing all five of the LumberKings runs on four hits while walking five and striking out two.
The five-run lead held up for Guerrero (5-5) who settled in following a leadoff double in the first to retire the next 15 Timber Rattlers batters.
After setting down the first two men of the bottom of the seventh, he allowed his only runs of the night when Connor McVey singled, Je'Von Ward walked, and Antonio Pinero homered to left center to cut Clinton's lead to two.
Following the home run, Guerrero was removed by was rewarded with the win. He turned in 6.2 innings of work, allowing three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out seven.
Elkin Alcala preserved the lead for Clinton with a 2.1 inning performance in which he did not allow a run on two hits while walking none and striking out two. For his time, Alcala earned his fourth save of the season.
The LumberKings will continue their road trip with the third game of a four-game set with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday night. Clinton will throw righty George Soriano (3-7, 4.32) while Wisconsin will tap righty Adam Hill (6-7, 4.22). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (CDT).
