
Chiefs Fall 7-5 Wednesday

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs scored five runs and sent 11 batters to the plate in the third inning, but ultimately fell to the Kane County Cougars 7-5 Wednesday night at Dozer Park. Jonatan Machado went three-for-five with a run scored earning the Pekin Insurance Beyond the Expected Player of the Game.
The Chiefs entered the bottom of the third trailing 1-0, but took the lead as they sent 11 batters to the plate, chasing Cougars starter Jackson Goddard out of the game. With one out, Leandro Cedeno walked then Josh Shaw and Jonatan Machado hit back-to-back singles to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Edwin Figuera singled to score Cedeno and tie the game at one and Brendan Donovan followed with a single to score Shaw for a 2-1 Chiefs lead. Brady Whalen continued his hot hitting with a double to score Machado and Figuera to increase the Chiefs lead to 4-1 as Donovan advanced to third. With runners on second and third, Carlos Soto singled to score Donovan for the 5-1 lead.
Logan Gragg took the no-decision after pitching 3 2/3 innings allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Connor Thomas pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing one run on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Sebastian Tabata (3-2) took the loss pitching a third of an inning allowing four runs with three walks and one strikeout. Freddy Pacheco pitched the final two thirds of an inning allowing one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
The series continues Thursday at 6:35 p.m. with Pride Night and Baumgarten Distributing Beer and Brat Thirsty Thursday. The broadcast can be heard, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:20 p.m. on the Peoria Chiefs Tune-In Page, which is free and also has a free app for smartphones and tablets. The Chiefs join the MiLB Pride Night Initiative in a night of inclusion with Peoria Proud as we welcome LGBTQ friends, family and allies to Dozer Park. There will also be concourse tables for Positive Health Solutions and FRIENDS. The first 1000 fans get a rainbow koozie presented by Positive Health Solutions, Peoria Proud, and the Peoria Chiefs. Thirsty Thursday specials include $2 12oz domestic cans, $3 Margaritas and Brats, plus $4 16oz Craft drafts. and Taco Bell Live Mas Thursday. Make sure to bring a Taco Bell receipt (showing $5 minimum) within the last seven days to receive a buy one, get one FREE ticket (limit two tickets per transaction) for all nine Thursday home games.
The homestand concludes on Friday, August 2 with post game fireworks on Harry Potter Night. Dress up as your favorite Harry Potter character and enjoy the sights and sounds from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The Chiefs will also wear Harry Potter themed jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit EP!C. There will also be memorabilia and collectibles from Harry Potter autographed by the stars that will be part of a raffle. There will also be a pitch-in for charity benefitting EP!C.
