Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Bowling Green Hot Rods (affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) in the second game of a four-game series. 2019 Season Series between Dayton and Bowling Green: Hot Rods 8, Dragons 5 (at Dayton: Dragons 3, BG 2).
Last Game: Tuesday: Dayton 6, Bowling Green 1. Miles Gordon went 4 for 5 with a home run and Dragons pitchers Nick Lodolo, Andy Fisher, and Clate Schmidt combined to allow just five hits in the series opener. The Dragons scored three runs in the second inning and one more in the third to take a 4-1 lead. They shutout Bowling Green over the final eight innings of the game. Dragons hitters drew nine walks, a team season high for 2019.
The Catch: Dragons center fielder Michael Siani made a tremendous leaping/diving catch on Tuesday night against Bowling Green at Fifth Third Field. The catch was featured that night as the #3 play on ESPN's Top 10 Plays of the Day. By 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, the video replay of the catch on the Dragons Twitter page had been viewed by over 67,000 people.
First Rounder: Nick Lodolo, the Cincinnati Reds 2019 first round draft pick, has made two starts for the Dragons on July 25 and July 30. He is the 18th first round pick to play for the Dragons. Lodolo played at TCU and was a 2019 2nd Team All-American.
Individual Notes
Since July 20, Dayton pitchers Connor Curlis and Andy Fisher are two of only five pitchers in the MWL who have not allowed an earned run while pitching at least 10 innings. Curlis has tossed 11 scoreless innings while Fisher has tossed 12 innings and allowed one unearned run.
Michael Siani is batting .329 in his last 21 games. However, he has cooled down in his last six games, going 3 for 22.
Since May 24, Siani has played in 53 games and is batting .302 with 22 stolen bases. Since May 24, he ranks 5th in the MWL in batting average, tied for 2nd in the MWL in hits, tied for 2nd in runs scored and first in stolen bases.
Randy Ventura is batting .333 over his last 10 games.
Miles Gordon is 6 for 10 with a home run over his last three games.
