Kane County Cougars News Release
Peoria, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars (60-46, 25-12) seized an early lead, but lost 11-7 against the Peoria Chiefs (41-65, 11-26) on Tuesday night at Dozer Park. The Chiefs rattled off 11 unanswered runs after the Cougars took a 5-0 advantage after two innings.
In the first inning, the Cougars scored four times. Zac Almond drove in the game's first run with a single. Dominic Fletcher hit a three-run homer later in the inning. The Cougars led 5-0 in the second on Almond's sacrifice fly.
Then, the avalanche of Peoria offense ensued. Cougar starter Adrian Del Moral walked in the Chief's first run in the third inning. Later in the same inning, Brady Whalen unloaded for a grand slam to tie the game, 5-5. Back-to-back three-run rallies in the fifth and sixth put the game to rest for Peoria. Five different Chiefs had RBI hits in those two innings: Imeldo Diaz, Brandon Riley, Delvin Perez, Brendan Donovan and Carlos Soto. Soto had RBI singles in both the fifth and sixth.
The Cougars got an RBI single from Geraldo Perdomo and a sacrifice fly from Zac Shannon in the eighth, but it was far too late. The lead was ultimately surrendered by Kenny Hernandez (4-2), who allowed six runs over two innings on 10 hits. Michael Brettell (4-7) earned the win with 5.2 innings of five-run ball.
The Cougars look to even the series on Wednesday night at Dozer park with first pitched scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Follow the action live on AM 1280 WBIG or online at kccougars.com.
