July 31, 2019 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - The bats were hot tonight in Beloit, as Beloit erupted for 12 runs in route to a victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Beloit collected 15 hits in the ballgame with 11 of the 12 runs coming in the third inning or sooner rounding out an impressive day at the plate.
In the first, Beloit pushed across two runs early in the first inning of the game to get the hitting started all with two outs. Devin Foyle would lead things off with a single and Osborne would reach on an error to put runners on first and second with no outs.
Moments later, John Jones would lace a line drive single to centerfield to plate Foyle and the first run of the game for the Snappers. Anthony Churlin would be next up, and he would do virtually the same thing hitting a single up the middle to plate Osborne and give the Snappers the 2-0 lead after 1 complete.
In the third, the Snappers bats would come alive again landing a crooked number of 9 on the board. Beloit would have 6 hits and 10 baserunners in the monster inning to aid the efforts.
Highlighting the inning would be Max Schuemann who doubled to plate two runs to push the Snappers out to a 7-0 lead. Then, Nick Osborne would single to centerfield to clear the bases plating 3 runs and putting the game out of reach with the Snappers holding the 11-0 lead.
Beloit would score just one more run in the game, but it would not be needed holding the Kernels to only 5 runs. When it was all said and done, the Snappers won 12-5 with 21 men reaching tonight in an impressive performance all around.
For the Snappers on the mound, Jhenderson Hurtado got the start and was excellent on the hill.
Hurtado ended the day throwing six scoreless innings, surrendering just 2 runs and 1 hit, while punching out 7 for the win.
Calvin Coker was first in relief and also had a solid day on the mound tossing two scoreless innings. Additionally, Coker only gave up 1 run, while punching out 2 and no walks.
The Snappers will be back in action tomorrow looking to take the lead in the series. Tomorrow will be Bark in the Park presented by the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin and we welcome all pups and people to Pohlman Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
