Salt Lake Bees News Release

SALT LAKE CITY (JULY 7) - The Salt Lake Bees used a seven-run fifth inning to edge their way to an 8-7 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas Tuesday night at Smith's Ballpark. With El Paso leading 4-1 in the fifth, the Bees rallied behind a leadoff hit-by-pitch from Jett Bandy, doubles from Josh Rutledge and Ryan Jackson and a three-run home run from Roger Kieschnick to take a four-run lead. Kieschnick's homer was his second in as many days and his team-leading 11th on the season, eight of which have come at home. Jackson continued his hot hitting at home, entering Tuesday's game with a .339 average at Smith's and went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Josh Rutledge went 3-for-4 in the contest, upping his July batting average to .357 over 28 at-bats.

"Going down 4-0, getting the comeback, having really big at-bats from the bottom of the order; it was really good," said Salt Lake manager Dave Anderson.

Drew Rucinski (4-4) earned his fourth win of the season behind solid run support. Rucinski was tagged for four runs on eight hits, walking four and striking out six over five innings of work. Rucinski's last loss came on May 22, and he has four wins and three no-decisions in seven starts since, dropping his ERA from 7.99 to 5.17. New addition to the Bees pitching staff, Ryan Verdugo, pitched one and two-thirds innings in relief and gave up two runs on three hits while striking out two. Frank Herrmann gave up one run over one and one-third before Vinnie Pestano closed out a perfect ninth inning for his second save of the season.

The Bees travel to Las Vegas for a four-game series beginning July 8 to end the first half of PCL baseball. Salt Lake returns to Smith's Ballpark on July 16 for a four-game series against Reno. For tickets and for more information, visit www.slbees.com.
