Salt Lake in Vegas to Close out First Half

SALT LAKE CITY (JULY 8) - The Salt Lake Bees travel to Las Vegas on Wednesday for five games in four days to close out the first half of Pacific Coast League baseball. Coming off a series-finale win over El Paso on Tuesday night, the Bees look to continue that momentum against the 51s, who lead the Pacific Southern division with a 48-38 record.

In two previous three-game series against the 51s this season, the Bees are 1-5, their sole win a 5-4 victory at home on June 24.

Adam Wilk (3-6) looks to get back on track in game one of the series at Cashman Field. In one previous meeting against Las Vegas this season, Wilk allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and gave up two home runs, walking one and striking out four over five innings.

Kaleb Cowart, Gary Brown and Ryan Jackson have blistered Las Vegas pitching over six games this season. Cowart hit .333 with two home runs, one doubles and six RBIs, crossing the plate five times in 21 at-bats. Brown enters Wednesday's game with a .360 average against Las Vegas with nine hits, one double, one triple and four RBIs in 25 at-bats. He also ran the bases well with two steals. Jackson has had more success than any other Salt Lake hitter against the 51s, batting .444 on the season with four doubles, three RBIs while also drawing three walks in 18 at-bats.

Alfredo Marte enters the series with the hottest bat in the Salt Lake lineup, having hit safely in 25 of his last 29 games, boasting a .433 average during the stretch. He has also added 16 extra-base hits with 21 RBIs and 18 multi-hit games. His .368 season batting average leads the PCL. Josh Rutledge has been hot to start July, owning a .357 batting average with two multi-hit games, two home runs and three RBIs in 28 at-bats to lift his season average to .254.

As a team, Las Vegas is batting .347 against Salt Lake in 2015, with six hitters batting .400 or better against Salt Lake pitching. Leading the charge for the 51s is Brandon Allen, who's batting .615 with eight hits, five of which came on June 25 (5-for-6, 2 2B, 2 RBIs) and six RBIs. Alex Castellanos enters Wednesday's game tied for second in the PCL with 27 doubles and is batting .400 with four doubles, three RBIs and nine runs scored against Salt Lake. Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Travis Tiajeron have combined for four of Las Vegas' six home runs against the Bees this season.

The Bees head into the All-Star break following the Las Vegas series. Jett Bandy will represent Salt Lake, selected to the All-Star Game in his first season in triple-A. The All-Star break runs from July 13 to July 15 with the All-Star game scheduled to take place on July 15 in Omaha, Nebraska at 6:05 p.m. MT.
