
Berkman to make rehab appearance at Dell Diamond

(ROUND ROCK, TX) â Lance Berkman, a three-time All-Star and the Houston Astros' Most Valuable Player in 2004 will make a rehab appearance at The Dell Diamond Saturday, April 30. Game time will be 7:05 PM. The Express will be in the third game of a four game home series against the Oklahoma RedHawks.
Berkman spent the first part of the week playing in extended spring training in Kissimmee, Florida before flying to Houston where he was evaluated by team physician Dr. David Lintner this morning.
The Astros signed Berkman to a six year, $85 million contract on March 19, 2005. The New Braunfels native hit .316 with 30 home runs and 106 RBI in 2004. He led the team in hitting, games, total bases, home runs, walks, intentional walks, slugging, and on-base percentage. A three-time All-Star (2001, â02, â04), Berkman also earned team MVP honors in 2001 and 2002.
Berkman has hit .303 (814-for-2683) with 156 home runs and 535 RBI in 775 career games for the Astros from 1999-2004. He is the first outfielder to record as many as three 30-homer seasons with the Astros, and is tied with Moises Alou for the most 100-RBI seasons with three. Berkman is the franchise career leader in both batting average (.303) and slugging percentage (.563). He led the National League in RBI in 2002 with 128, and his 156 career home runs rank sixth on the franchise career list.
