Bases loaded walk lifts Sacramento

Tucson's Shane Nance walked Matt Watson to force in the winning run Thursday night in the bottom of the ninth lifting Sacramento to a 2-1 victory at Raley Field. The loss ended the Sidewinders six-game winning streak.

Nance came out of the bullpen with two men on base and one out in the ninth before striking out Freddie Bynum for the second out of the inning. Nance hit Jermaine Clark with a pitch to load the bases before issuing the walk to end the contest.

Sacramento's Matt Watson started the scoring in the third inning when he slammed a solo home run against Tucson starter Chris Michalak.

Tucson remained scoreless until the ninth inning when Doug Devore led the inning off with a long solo home run to tie the game at 1. Before the inning was over the Sidewinders got hits from Juan Brito and Brian Barden and a walk to Carlos Quentin. Conor Jackson flied to right to end the inning leaving the bases loaded. The Sidewinders stranded 13 in the game.

Kerry Ligtenberg (2-1) suffered the loss for Tucson allowing the one run in one inning of work.

Tucson dropped to 11-10. The Sidewinders and River Cats will play game two of the four-game set Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field. Edgar Gonzalez (1-0 3.42) will start for Tucson against Sacramento's Britt Reames (1-1 1.88). The game will be broadcast live on COOL 1450 AM at 7:05 p.m.
