Beavers celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Mothers Day in second homestand

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers return to PGE Park for an eight-game homestand from May 2-9, playing host to a pair of division rivals, the Salt Lake Stingers (Angels) and Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Rockies). The second homestand of the season is highlighted by a host of promotional activities, including a Cinco de Mayo party on Thursday, May 5, and a special Mothers Day celebration on Sunday, May 8.

Thursdays are always a popular night at PGE Park, and this coming week is no exception as the Beavers celebrate Cinco de Mayo in grand style with special in-game promotions, decorations, food and fun.

On Sunday afternoon, the Beavers make this year's Mothers Day one to remember, with a special Portland Beavers picture frame giveaway for the first 1,000 moms in attendance. Additionally, the Beavers are conducting a Mothers Day essay contest on the team's official website, www.portlandbeavers.com. There, kids will have the opportunity to nominate their mom for a special prize pack. The winning mother will receive four tickets to Sunday's game, the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, flowers and an assortment of Beavers merchandise.

The homestand wraps up on Monday, May 9, with the second OMSI Art & Science of Baseball School Day of the season. The atmosphere is sure to be electric, as thousands of school kids will invade PGE Park for the ultimate field trip. OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) will once again have a number of interactive displays, exhibits and activities lined up on the main concourse of PGE Park for the popular midday event. Four school choirs, totaling more than 100 kids, will team up to sing the national anthem before the game. First pitch is 11:05 a.m.

ZENNER'S DOLLAR DOG WEDNESDAY - Beavers vs. Salt Lake - 7:05 p.m. Certainly a favorite last season, Zenner's Dollar Dog Wednesdays are back in 2005, with $1 hot dogs being featured.

Thursday, May 5

CINCO DE MAYO - Beavers vs. Salt Lake - 7:05 p.m.

Let's face it, PGE Park is the place to be on Thursday nights throughout the spring and summer ... expect the same great atmosphere that Thursdays have become known for at PGE Park, especially this Thursday as the Beavers celebrate Cinco de Mayo in grand fashion.

Friday, May 6

COMCAST LATINO NIGHT - Beavers vs. Colorado Springs - 7:05 p.m. The Beavers have a variety of special events planned for this year's Latino Night, presented by Comcast.

Saturday, May 7

SMOKEY BEAR NIGHT - Beavers vs. Colorado Springs - 7:05 p.m. Smokey Bear will be in attendance as the Beavers entertain the Sky Sox ... four fire trucks will be on display at the two main plazas at PGE Park ... the first 500 kids (14 and under) will receive Smokey Bear baseballs ... kids will enjoy inflatable games on the Fred Meyer Family Deck during the game.

Sunday, May 8

MOTHERS DAY / SUPER KIDS SUNDAY - Beavers vs. Colorado Springs - 2:05 p.m. The first 1,000 moms in attendance receive a complimentary Portland Beavers picture frame ... a popular feature of Sunday games in the past, a special autograph session with players from this year's team will take place before the game on the Fred Meyer Family Deck, and select fans will have the opportunity to play catch on the field prior to the afternoon contest ... after the game, kids and moms will have the chance to run the bases at PGE Park.

Monday, May 9

OMSI ART & SCIENCE OF BASEBALL SCHOOL DAY - Beavers vs. Colorado Springs - 11:05 a.m. The second 11:05 a.m. game of the season, Monday is a great chance for kids and business executives to come out to the park as the Beavers wrap up their second homestand ... interactive displays and activities will be featured on the concourse at PGE Park, combining baseball and science in an entertaining and educational setting.
