Round Rock Express News Release
(ROUND ROCK, TX) â RF Todd Self's two-run homer in the bottom of the 7th off reliever Joaquin Benoit propelled the Express to a 6-3 win over the Oklahoma Redhawks on Thursday night at The Dell Diamond.
Round Rock opened the scoring parade with a Tommy Whiteman RBI single in the bottom of the second inning, scoring Brooks Conrad and the Express led it 1-0.
Oklahoma, the triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, took the lead in the top of the fourth as 3B Marshall McDougald smacked an Ezequiel Astacio fastball out of the park for a two-run homer and a 2-1 Oklahoma advantage. Round Rock tied it with a Chris Tremie RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. But the Redhawks regained the lead when SS Manny Alexander's sacrifice fly scored Ian Kinsler from third. The lead didn't last long, though as Express 3B Mike Coolbaugh blasted his third homer of the home stand to tie the game at 3-3.
That set the stage for Self's first Triple-A homer, a two-run shot into the Oklahoma bullpen that gave Round Rock a 5-3 lead. The Express tacked on another run in the bottom of the 8th and it ended 6-3 Round Rock.
Express starter, Ezequiel Astacio looked sharp in his six innings of work. He gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out six and walking two against the second leading hitting team in the Pacific Coast League. Astacio's next scheduled start will be for the Houston Astros against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
Picking up the win in relief of Astacio was Dave Burba. Burba went one scoreless inning and picked up his third win of the season. Closer Mike Burns notched his sixth save of the season and has yet to give up a run this season in 12.1 innings of work.
Round Rock and Oklahoma meet at 7:05 tomorrow night for the second game of a four game home series on Bud Light Fireworks Friday at The Dell Diamond.
